Is it time for solid food?
Updated: Jan 22, 2021
I can’t be the only one who has felt pressure from older parents about giving my baby cereal, oatmeal, rice and other baby food. “Just a little won‘t hurt.” “He’ll sleep better at night.” “He won’t be so fussy all day..” Blah blah blahhhhh! Here’s the thing, their babies so crying, waking in the middle of the night, and being fussy is their job and way of communicating.
Nur is 5 months, and up until now was exclusively only getting breastmilk. I can say we have finally hit the milestone where food is definitely an option. With him being able to sit up on his own, his ability to grab and hold things, and his increased interest in the foods I’m eating, I feel like it’s time to slowly start introducing small servings of purées to him. Understand feeding your baby food should not be done for “nutrition”, but in actually as practice for them so that once they are really eating food they know how to move from spoon to mouth, move it around, and then swallow.
My suggestion is to start small. A teaspoon twice a day, in a slightly thicker consistency as their milk. Remember, these feedings are practice which mean baby should still be drinking breastmilk or formula for the ultimate nutrients.

(Here we tried the teething biscuits, which i noticed he really didn’t care for them.)
How soon did you start to give your baby foods? Where you influenced by your parents or older family members to rush to give baby cereal or other foods? Once you did give baby food, what were the first things you gave?
